Matthew David Stewart
Matthew Stewart was born May 21st 1974 to Michael and Sonja Stewart. He was the oldest out of five children growing up in the Stewart household in Ogden, Utah.
As a child Matthew was bright, fun, sensitive and responsible. Many times helping his mother with his younger brothers and sisters. He has also always been very intelligent and inventive. His mother describes him as her right hand man while growing up. She beamed as she reminisced about an old hand made coupon book that Matthew gave to her as a Mother’s Day gift. The vouchers inside where for things like “one clean house” or “one clean shed”.
After Matthew graduated from Ogden High School in 1992 he left home to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He spent time in Germany and also in Saudi Arabia. He was an air born soldier and received awards for his knowledge and ability in his specialty, communications.
After returning home Matthew got a night job as an armed security job for the IRS. He worked there for many years before leaving to pursue his schooling as a licensed massage therapist. In a weak economy, he failed to find work in the massage industry and got a job as a night shift receiving associate at a local Wal*Mart.
Matthew is a kind and compassionate man who embraces natural healing methods. He has a vast knowledge of the benefits held in massage, herbs, and aromatherapy. He is always excited when he has a chance to share this with other people, often making fragrances and candles, or offering free massage work to people he cares about.
Matthew has a love for music. His appreciation ranges across a broad variety of genres and forms. He often loves finding new and exciting songs to share with family and friends. He spends his free time searching for the perfect mix of music to put on CDs to hand out. Music speaks to Matthew and he does his best to share that message with others.

Matthew loves the outdoors and nature. He especially enjoys going on hikes with anyone he could drag along with him.
Matthew is very physically fit and takes pride in a healthy body. One of his huge role models throughout his life is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Matthew would take advice and techniques from books Arnold has released or old videos he found on the internet to apply to his own physical regime.

First I am so sorry about your son. I’m also a veteran and have a bachelors. This economy has forced allot of us to take risks we normally would have considered unreasonable. I blame the lack of transitional programs set up for military to civilian life and almost no legislation that ensures Veterans get a job over anyone. Cost of living and Pay/Benefits for jobs that are available do not cut it. Your son is not a criminal or a murderer. These were not his intentions when planning or executing his “criminal activities”. I also believe that if the police showed up to talk with David in a non para military almost gestapo presence he would have met them with no hostility. Until we address the causes of your sons and the police actions. These situations will only continue to destroy more lives. Again, I’m Very Sorry.
This Is Totally Wrong!!! You Should Be Able To Do Everything You Possibly Can To Get The Best,Top Of The Line Defence Lawyer This Nation Has To Offer Matthew For this Specific Case!!!
I Am Glad That You Are The Type Of Family That Dares To Do Something About This!!! Creating A Web Site That Lets Other People Know What Is Going On Here Is Not Right And Is Ding Things That Are Criminally Wrong!!!
Keep Fighting For Donations And Stand Your Ground Because What is Right Is Right And What Is Wrong IS Wrong!!!
We All Need To Wake Up And Start Demanding Justice, The Kind Of Justice That Is Our Duty To Declare And Our Rights To Continue Being Free In This So Called Free Democracy Before It Is Too Late!!!
That We Ourselves End Up Slowely, Little By Little, Selling Ourselves Right Into Captivity!!!
I would like to know why the State can stop people from donating. I can see why how they can determine a non-profit company vs profit, but how in the world can they or better yet, why would they try to impede a defense?
I can somewhat sympathize with this. The Government wants to control everything. They should change venue and stop trying to shut down money raising efforts. Don’t they realize that everyone is entitled to a defense? I wish you luck.
No one should lose there life over 16 pot plants. These strike force raids that the police conduct are reminicent of the Gestapo raids during World War II.
Mr and Mrs Stewart
I am happy to see this website.
The raid that took place on your son was totally uncalled for. The lack of training of the ogden police deptartment has cost the life of an officer and a unfair detainment of your son.
Someone needs to put a stop to the harrament and untrained officers here in this state.
The person in charge of sending in these officers in a swat like tatic , how do you sleep at night? Knowing this could have been prevented.
A nonviolent person is now accused of defending himself.
We all hope justice is served and your son is freed. Ogden PD you should be ashamed.
Thank you so much for your messege. Our hearts are broken for everyone involved on this raid. There has to be a better way to handle such things and we are out to find it!!! In defense of OPD they were just pawns in a bigger game.

Mr and Mrs Stewart The raid that took place on your son by the ogden police GANG unit was wrong! If it happen to me I would have done the same thing your son did!!!!!
I will have you know that I may not suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, there have been times when the wind blows too hard, and I wake with my heart pounding wondering what the heck that noise was. I can assure you that if several armed men were to “raid” my home, I would see them only as a threat. The fact that they are treating a man that risked his life to defend our country like this, is disgusting. They knew exactly what they were doing. All Mr Stewart did was defend his home as well as his life. There is not a doubt in my mind that Mr. Stewart was exercising the “stand your ground” law. The fact that they broke into his home, which was supposed to be his safe haven, and they were ready for combat, clearly spells out their intentions. I do not understand what he was supposed to do, lay down and die? Were the officers shooting at him to scare him or kill him? When officers fired upon him their goal was to end his life, end his dreams, his thoughts, his goals, everything he ever was or would have been.
It does not matter if it is an officer of the “law” or a crack fiend who will do anything it takes to get drug money….if they are trying to slay you, you do everything in your power to live another day. I believe Mr. Stewart knew that and did just that for his will to live, but the court may murder him for it. It is clear to me that this case is incredibly biased. I beg of anyone who reads this to do anything you can to help him in anyway way. They are trying to murder a potentially innocent man.
Let me stress the fact that they knew that he suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. Please think about it, they knew that he worked at Walmart, and they could have easily apprehended him there, without incident. Instead, they decided to show up at his house in the middle of the night while he lay peacefully, as if it were any other day. They decided to make a political statement out of him. It seems to me that there is more to this than a simple possession of marijuana. Because of this, there is a man dead and a man that has been horribly disfigured. As if that is not enough, a man who has been victim to a terrible injustice is going to be punished for it.
Again, if you read this, please do anything you can to help justice prevail in this dismal, biased case for a man’s freedom. Spread the message.

Glad to see all the positive comments. Government aggression is an evil force, the drug war is a scam, and if Matthew indeed did what was alleged he was fully justified. Here’s hoping he gets a Fully Informed Jury — jc
I just finished reading Mathews bio and now I have a heavy heart and angry mind. I’m full of emotion but I don’t think words can do these feelings justice. What I will say is I’m so so sorry…so sorry…
