What is the purpose of this website?

This site allows people and organizations to support Matthew Stewart in his efforts to seek justice. Defending oneself in the court of law is a costly endeavor and this site helps us raise funds for his legal defense.

Why collect donations if tax dollars will pay for a public defender?

While the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution grants the right to legal counsel, having the right tools to mount a proper defense in a complex case such as this takes much more. The testimony of expert witnesses, scientists, medical professionals, and other helpful contributors is essential in communicating the facts and may not be afforded to public defenders through tax payer funding.

Can donations be made anonymously?

All donations are private. We will not share your information or make it public.

How much of my donation will go toward Matthew’s defense fund?

100% of all contributions are used to pay the compounding legal costs associated with this high profile case.

Why are there ads on this site?

Having the ads on this site helps to generate a small amount of money for Matthew’s defense fund. We don’t pick which ads are placed in the ad spots, instead that is determined by Google Adsense.

I posted a comment but I don’t see it showing yet?

Just curious, why are donations disabled?

    • helpmatthewstewart.org says:

Donations are temporarily disabled during the filing of Charitable Organization paperwork with the State of Utah.

  2. First I am so sorry about your son. I’m also a veteran and have a bachelors. This economy has forced allot of us to take risks we normally would have considered unreasonable. I blame the lack of transitional programs set up for military to civilian life and almost no legislation that ensures Veterans get a job over anyone. Cost of living and Pay/Benefits for jobs that are available do not cut it. Your son is not a criminal or a murderer. These were not his intentions when planning or executing his “criminal activities”. I also believe that if the police showed up to talk with David in a non para military almost gestapo presence he would have met them with no hostility. Until we address the causes of your sons and the police actions. These situations will only continue to destroy more lives. Again, I’m Very Sorry.

  3. They say a cop killer will get big do actions says:

  5. How is it that so-called law abiding citizens let alone officers can stand by and watch this persons character is being destroyed and their personality slandered? I have never met this man and I could easily see any of my friends or family sitting in this position and there isn’t one of them I consider to be a terrible person.

It just goes to show the amount of influence the media has over people today. For some incredibly stupid reason, the lemmings in our community tend to believe everything they are told. Of course, the media never lies just like the police department.

What started out as an absolutely uncalled for, brutal police home invasion is being portrayed in the media and police inner circles as he had it coming. There are officers who were there and know what really transpired and just like the gangs they are portraying as bad guys who won’t cooperate with officers questioning, just what exactly is this task force doing? Exactly the same thing. Its ok though. They are offiers sent to protect and serve. What exactly did they protect us from in this instance? I, for the life of me, cannot figure i out.

Alright. Enough rambling. As you can tell, I firmly believe the prosecution is crooked. They are hiding and destroying evidenne. They are wilfully witholding evidence. They are a win at all cost team and I truly feel sorry for matthew and his friends.

I will have you know that I may not suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, there have been times when the wind blows too hard, and I wake with my heart pounding wondering what the heck that noise was. I can assure you that if several armed men were to “raid” my home, I would see them only as a threat. The fact that they are treating a man that risked his life to defend our country like this, is disgusting. They knew exactly what they were doing. All Mr Stewart did was defend his home as well as his life. There is not a doubt in my mind that Mr. Stewart was exercising the “stand your ground” law. The fact that they broke into his home, which was supposed to be his safe haven, and they were ready for combat, clearly spells out their intentions. I do not understand what he was supposed to do, lay down and die? Were the officers shooting at him to scare him or kill him? When officers fired upon him their goal was to end his life, end his dreams, his thoughts, his goals, everything he ever was or would have been.

It does not matter if it is an officer of the “law” or a crack fiend who will do anything it takes to get drug money….if they are trying to slay you, you do everything in your power to live another day. I believe Mr. Stewart knew that and did just that for his will to live, but the court may murder him for it. It is clear to me that this case is incredibly biased. I beg of anyone who reads this to do anything you can to help him in anyway way. They are trying to murder a potentially innocent man.

Let me stress the fact that they knew that he suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. Please think about it, they knew that he worked at Walmart, and they could have easily apprehended him there, without incident. Instead, they decided to show up at his house in the middle of the night while he lay peacefully, as if it were any other day. They decided to make a political statement out of him. It seems to me that there is more to this than a simple possession of marijuana. Because of this, there is a man dead and a man that has been horribly disfigured. As if that is not enough, a man who has been victim to a terrible injustice is going to be punished for it.

Again, if you read this, please do anything you can to help justice prevail in this dismal, biased case for a man’s freedom. Spread the message.

I am so sorry to hear about this. One tragedy after another. Matthew should be set free right away and given psychiatric treatment for the trauma he went through having all these armed men breaking into his home.

  8. Khush says:

If the facts of this case is right, then the judge has an obligation to suspend the police officers.

12 policemen in a home. Even the judge would have shot them.

I’m saying that as a Law student.

  9. mitch brown says:

Little men with great big guns! What a travesty! Why not snatch the poor guy up in a very deserted Wal Mart parking lot? He is a hero in my book. Anyone ever read Unintended Consequences?

  10. scott says:

i have a friend who worked with Matthew who explained that he never said anything about killing cops nor would he talk that way. the prosecution fabricated that witness in order to seek the death penalty. wow

  11. Mother of a son in a similar situation says:

My husband & I ask about you as Matthew’s parents each time we see Randy or Bernie. They are wonderful attorney’s and fine people. If anyone can help Matthew, they can. They are our son’s attorneys as well and they are great with him as well as us. We’ve never been in a position like this until now, people treated us as bad as they do our son, just because we support him. We know what you’re going through and totally sympathize with your situation. The Weber County Jail is a poorly run and filthy environment. Many times when our son was in jail, we would make our visitation appointments and most of the time an inmate would see us on camera and ask us who we were there to see. One time we got a whole 5 minutes of our 20 minute appointment because the incompetent ones couldn’t keep it straight. I thanked the other inmate for being the most competent one on the floor.

I know many police officers and most think the whole ordeal with Matthew was messed up from the start. No vests, one guy with his arm in a sling, no uniforms, they had no idea what they were doing. One of my friends was actually there just after it all went down. What a shame over a very few plants.

The morale of this story, don’t believe everything you hear from the police. They lie. Once our trial is over or is dropped, we will be able to donate to Matthew.
